As often happens in times of war, a religious resurgence occurred during the period in which the SS Republic was in operation. The ship went down with religious artifacts that provided insight into the beliefs and practices of the time period. For religious scholars, these rare items are invaluable.
Angel Figurines: These delicate statues were often given to children who completed their lessons in Catholic school.
Madonna Statue: This beautiful piece depicts “Our Lady of Grace” with stars thought to represent the 12 apostles and would have been displayed in a home or hospital.
Crucifix Candlesticks: These candlesticks were most likely made by a 19th century company, Boston and Sandwich Glass Company of Massachusetts. They were produced from approximately the 1860s until 1900.
